Why doesn’t anybody like Tom Cruise anymore?

July 24, 2010 - 5:55 pm 8 Comments

Just wondering. Think of it as a fun pop culture poll.

Provide any biographies or filmographies if you wish. You will get the opportunity to vote for the best answer in about a week.
Mynem: Interesting. I though it was because of the whole "jumping-on-Oprah’s-couch thing".

Has anybody seen "Knight & Day"? I’ve heard that it wasn’t that great. I’ll probably rent it when it comes on DVD.
Chicks with Guns: Brad Pitt’s getting old too but he’s still a great actor.
Someone: Explain.

tj hooker: Toleration for other religions is necessary. Please do not write anything that insults members of other religions.
Amin A: OK.
Lady of the Lake & and the Other Guy Below: I’m referring to number of films and overall Hollywood popularity.
It does not matter whether you consider Scientology a religion or a cult. As long as the members of the group are nonviolent, we must respect their beliefs. Of course, there may be violent extremists in all religions and cults but the members of most religions are peaceful people.

Because he’s a scientologist.

edit: We do not need to have respect for scientology. Scientology is not a religion. It is a money-sucking cult. It sucks members in, milks all their money, and then lets them work the rest of their lives for the so-called ‘church’ to earn money to get to a higher level.

What kind of a church copyrights its symbols, and only reveals its beliefs to those who pay for it?

Knowledge is free.

What does it take to become a singer or an actress?

July 24, 2010 - 5:55 pm 4 Comments

I’m 14 years old and when Im older I want to move to California and become a singer and or actress because it has always been a dream of mine, I would also like to be a role model for younger girls what would it take?

It takes experience, training, looks and luck.

Better you should get established as an actor in a smaller place without so many unemployed actors. LA is wall to wall with them. Dallas, Denver, Atlanta, Miami and some other cities offer plenty of opportunity to get established as an actor.

Does watching a movie in a cinema benefit the eyes?

July 24, 2010 - 5:55 pm 2 Comments

I’ve heard it from somewhere but does anyone know medically and scientifically if watching a movie at the cinema is good for the eyes in any way?

There is no medical or scientific reason that it would make any difference , either good or bad, either way.

That is simply using your eyes for what they are meant to do…see things.

how did the great depression affect artists, performers, actors and writers?

July 24, 2010 - 5:55 pm 3 Comments

I am also looking for someones story on an individual town or family to discribe to me the affects it had on so many of the artists, performers, actors and writers.

Do a Web search for "Works Progress Administration" – they were the big government employer of performing artists, composers, etc.

What can I do to become a record producer in the future?

July 24, 2010 - 5:55 pm 3 Comments

I’m about to enter high school, and my dream is to become a record producer. What are some things I can do now to help me with this? What programs should I get involved with in school? What kinds of things can I do outside of school to help me? Thank you for any help.

Build up experience, with anything musical and soundwise, help out in school productions working with the music (micing, speakers etc). Also would be a good idea to start getting a bit of experience on an instrument, id say piano as that will help you build up an understanding to how music works. Also the main thing is to listern to alot of music and imagine how it was produced, if you still feel serious after doing these things ask a local studio or radio station if you can do some unpaid work experience, you will learn soo much doing work experience it is unbeleivible.
Its an awsum goal to have and just keep aiming for it. :]

What popular movies do you think are overrated?

July 24, 2010 - 5:55 pm 14 Comments

I think that anything Sofia Coppola (Francis Ford Coppola’s daughter) directs is overrated, like Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides. Those both could have been great movies but she barely develops her characters, and it always feels like something big is missing when the movie ends. I never saw Marie Antoinette but I heard bad things about that too.

The Dark Knight (unfortunately, and it’s all Aaron Eckhart’s fault)
Titanic
Crash
Slumdog Millionaire (the most contrived movie ever)
Scarface (even though it’s one of my favorites)
Donnie Darko (fanboys destroyed this one)

Tarantella

July 23, 2010 - 3:42 am No Comments

Tarantella

An ambitious young Italian-American photographer returns to her childhood home after her mother’s death and finds herself face-to-face with her own history of contradictory family and social identities. The Tarantella, a traditional dance popularly thought to be a remedy for the supposed poisonous bite of the tarantula and the warding off of evil spirits, serves as a metaphor for Diana’s personal struggles to overcome her Italian past and to assimilate into American melting-pot culture. The story unfolds when Diana finds a big bound book belonging to her mother that includes recipes, a journal and a story handwritten in Italian, a language Diana no longer remembers. Her mother’s best friend, Pina, translates the story which is beautifully and innovatively recreated through the use of traditional Italian puppetry.
